Nepal has been declared a republic today, Wednesday 28th May 2008. The newest republic in the world has formally bid farewell to the 240 years old Shah dynasty. Abolition of monarchy and declaration of a federal democratic republic is perhaps the most important event in the history of modern Nepal. Effectively, this is the start of a new history, the beginning of a new era for the beautiful Himalayan country blessed with insurmountable potentials but severely neglected by the hereditary rulers for centuries.
